Coulter A. A. Osborne

The Honourable Coulter A. A. Osborne attended the University of Western Ontario from 1952 to 1955, during which time he was a member of the Western Mustangs basketball team. In 1956, he became a member of not only the Ontario Senior Championship Team, but also the Canadian Olympic Basketball Team at the Melbourne Olympics. In 2000, Mr. Osborne revisited Sydney, Australia, to participate in carrying the Olympic torch.

After his call to the Bar in 1959, he practised in Kitchener, Ontario until his appointment to the Supreme Court of Ontario in 1978. During his tenure on the Supreme Court of Ontario, he was appointed the Commissioner on Inquiry into Motor Vehicle Accident Compensation in Ontario in 1987. Mr. Osborne subsequently served on the Court of Appeal from 1990 and in June 1999, was appointed the Associate Chief Justice of Ontario. On September 17, 2001, he was appointed Integrity Commissioner.

Mr. Osborne was the president of the Canadian Amateur Swimming Association (Ontario Section), assistant swim coach for the Kitchener-Waterloo Y Aquatic Club, director of the Kitchener-Waterloo Squash Club and director of the Kitchener Ontario Motor League, Children’s International Summer Villages (Waterloo), Young Men’s Christian Association (Waterloo) and The Advocates’ Society.

Mr. Osborne is married to his wife, Barbara, and has three children, and his hobbies include tennis, golf and squash.
